20 Questions with APRA IN President Tania Osborn

We're kicking off Apra Indiana’s new 20 Questions series with none other than Tania Osborn, President of Apra Indiana! From her path into prospect development to what she can't live without on her desk, get to know Tania both professionally and personally in this fun and insightful Q&A.

1. What is the superpower that you often use at work?

I enjoy problem-solving and finding new and more efficient ways to complete a task.


2. What is one thing Apra Indiana has done for you?

Apra has allowed me to meet so many new, amazing people. I now have a large network of individuals with whom I can discuss prospect management and research topics.


3. If the annual Apra International conference could be anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?

I vote for Ireland!


4. How do you explain your role to people outside of Development?

Identifying and analyzing potential prospects who may have an interest in supporting a specific cause. 


5. If you were not in Prospect Research, what career would you have?

I would have been a meteorologist or a geologist.


6. If you could tell your 15-year-old self about your job, what would you say?

Working in philanthropy is very rewarding. I feel good about what I am doing every single day.


7. Why did you join the Apra-Indiana board?

My co-worker encouraged me to join.


8. Why do you think Apra-Indiana and the local Apra chapters matter?

It is a fantastic place to meet other people with the same passions. Apra Indiana and the local chapters try to create opportunities for smaller groups to gather and share information. 


9. What is your #1 productivity tip?

I use Teams to stay organized. When I feel overwhelmed, I block time on my calendar for focused work.


10. Best advice ever received?

Choose your battles wisely. 


11. If you wrote a book about prospect development, what would it be called?

“How many prospects do you really need?”


12. If you wrote a memoir on your life, what would it be called?

“How many pairs of shoes do you really need?”


13. What book are you reading right now?

The Coast-to-Coast Murders by J. D. Barker and James Patterson


14. Currently, what is your favorite restaurant?

Any restaurant with a lobster roll.


15. What is your favorite social platform to connect with people?

LinkedIn


16. What is the last movie or TV show series you watched?

The Movie, Drop


17. If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

My dad.


18. What is your hobby?

Hiking

20. Who or what inspires you?

My amazing network of family, friends, and co-workers inspires me to continue to learn and contribute to something good.
